Candy Ley Velazquez, Esq.

Candy Ley Velazquez is the founder and principal attorney at Velazquez Law, LLC, a New Jersey law firm with offices in Morristown and Short Hills serving clients in central and northern New Jersey and statewide in family law. Passionate about the law, Candy is compassionate with her clients while aggressively pursuing their needs, protecting their rights and defending their interests.

Candy completed her undergraduate degree from Kean University in Union, New Jersey, before going on to earn her Juris Doctor law degree at City University of New York School of Law. After law school, Candy served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Ramona A. Santiago, J.S.C. (Ret.) of the New Jersey Superior Court, Criminal Division in Essex County.

At the start of her legal career, Candy worked at a general practice law firm in Newark, where she handled family law, divorce and domestic violence cases, along with criminal, DWI, traffic and bankruptcy matters. She also worked for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office as an Assistant Prosecutor, assigned to the Family Division, Domestic Violence Unit. While there, Candy prosecuted violations of restraining orders and additionally litigated weapons forfeiture matters. She also prosecuted a variety of criminal offenses while assigned to the Trial Division.

After working for a boutique family law firm in New Jersey, Candy opened her own law firm practice to provide clients with individualized, affordable, and results-driven representation. It has been her intention to reinvent the divorce and family law process by making it a smooth, efficient and affordable experience for families to get high-quality legal advice and representation that delivers excellent outcomes. Her practice especially focuses on helping families with special needs children or those impacted by domestic violence.

In addition to practicing law, Candy taught Family Law, Litigation, Legal Writing and Introduction to Paralegal Studies for the Union County College, Paralegal Studies Program. Candy also serves as a panelist for the Essex County Matrimonial Early Settlement Panel. She is also a divorce and family law mediator.

Candy has been selected to the Super Lawyers Rising Stars for 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023 and the 2020 New Jersey’s Best Lawyers for Families, Family Law.
